Jet to Israel diverts after cockpit chaos.

A Flydubai plane flying from Dubai toward Tel Aviv sent a distress call and landed in Saudi Arabia. Israeli officials say the co-pilot stabbed the pilot and tried to crash the jet. They say passengers and crew stopped him, and other pilots landed the plane. The passengers later flew on to Israel.

What happened. Reuters, citing Israeli officials on Sept. 30, 2026, says flight FZ1073’s co-pilot tried to crash the aircraft after stabbing the pilot. Passengers and crew subdued him. A second pair of pilots who were already on board landed in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. Flightradar24 data cited by Reuters shows a drop of nearly 14,000 feet in less than 30 seconds. A replacement plane later carried the passengers to Tel Aviv. The motive was not clear in the first reports. Israel’s defense minister called it an attempted attack; that is his label, not a court finding.

Who wants what. Israeli officials want the event described as a stopped crash attempt. Saudi authorities were questioning the accused pilot, Prime Minister Netanyahu said. The people on the plane wanted the plane on the ground.

Follow the money. No fare, fine, or insurance figure is in the Reuters account we used. The cost of the diversion is not published there.

What they’re not saying. Early official stories can move. Reuters attributes the stabbing and the crash attempt to Israeli officials, not to a finished investigation. A passenger account and a minister’s word are not the same as a cockpit recorder made public.

Why LA. This is not a Los Angeles crime. It is on the front because Angelenos fly these long routes, and because the first draft is coming from one government’s officials.
